REPLACING GEARS NOTE FOR 7500SS/8500SS:
This replacement main gear for Penn reels comes in a brass/aluminum construction that differs from older brass-only versions. Should you be upgrading from legacy brass gearing, the corresponding pinion gear 0019P7500 must also be replaced—however, this pinion is now discontinued. Consequently, aluminum gear repairs are limited to aluminum-to-aluminum replacements, with no upgrade path available from the original brass configuration.
REPLACING GEARS NOTE FOR 750SSM/850SSM:
The 008P7500 main gear is engineered for newer Penn reel models and requires pairing with the 019 750M pinion gear. Note that the 019 750M pinion is not compatible with legacy 7500SS and 8500SS reel designs, so verify your reel model before ordering to ensure proper fitment.
NOTE:
When main and pinion gears appear sound yet operate with slight resistance, shimming can restore smooth performance. Install one to three shims beneath the handle-side bearing on the main gear to reduce roughness. Both the 008A950M and 154 030 shims are interchangeable options for this adjustment.
